Here's a word you don't see every day. Umbel. An umbel is an inflorescence, like the one above, in which a number of flower stalks or pedicels, nearly equal in length, spread from a common center. In the novel I use it as a descriptor to evoke reality's theoretically branching nature, wherein all physically possible outcomes at every instance of our lives is actually being played out in some parallel universe.
